Anti-Support

Negative comments disguised by good intentions.

Example-

I told a friend once – “I would really like to get back to college and finish my degree.”

He said- “Maybe you should consider that you already know all you need to know.”

His tone was kind, perhaps his intention was as well but his words were not, absent of his voice, it’s clear to see that his words are discouraging.

For those who like to read between the lines- the translation is “you don’t need to finish college.”

  1. I’ve found that most of the time, people’s desire to offer insight overshadows their complete lack of understanding about what they’re offering the insight about.
